I love a good horror film but I think it is very difficult to be truly original within the genre. The Unborn is not something that I have heard of on any grapevine and there isn’t really any information to be gained about is quality in who made the film as Director David Goyer wrote the screenplay for the very average Blade Trinity but also gave us the very good Batman Begins, and was behind the story of the Dark Knight too, so I am hoping that this venture into the horror genre (but as writer AND director) will be more inline with his Batman outings rather than his Blade ones.

The blurb from the official website reads “Casey Bell (Odette Yustman) hated her mother for leaving her as a child. But when inexplicable things start to happen, Casey begins to understand why she left. Plagued by merciless dreams and a tortured ghost that haunts her waking hours, she must turn to the only spirtual advisor, Sendak (Gary Oldman), who can make it stop.

With Sendak’s help, Casey uncovers the source of a family curse dating back to Nazi Germany – a creature with the ability to inhabit anyone or anything that is getting stronger with each possession. With the curse unleashed, her only chance at survival is to shut a doorway from beyond our world that has been pried open by someone who was never born.”

The main thing that stands out for me here is Gary Oldman, I think he is a class actor and may be what is needed to make the film worth watching. The only problem is deciding to shell out for a cinema visit or wait for the DVD? I think that the Horror genre lends itself very well to dark, atmospheric, half full cinemas for atmosphere so I would err on the side of spending the money to go see this there, but I need to get past thinking that this is a bit on an Omen rip off; and With IMDB currently giving it 6.1/10 it does only seem to be pretty average, but at least it is on the right side of average.
